Time has gotten away from me and its been far too long since I have posted here. I'm immersed in learning mixed media photography, mainly photos with encaustic (wax) and oil. Encaustic is one of the oldest forms of painting known, yet many people have never heard of it. Right now encaustic painting is enjoying a bit of a renaissance.

I've needed to explore some new creative directions for a long time, and this is the prefect chance to do it, with a show coming up in February here in Nashville. What's selling mostly right now in Nashville are smaller paintings and I will have an opportunity to show some small photo encaustic pieces -- provided I've sufficiently mastered encaustic before the show! Encaustic work is quite involved, requiring significant equipment and a steep learning curve. I've discovered that I'm drawn to encaustics with a smooth surface rather than textured, just as I  prefer painting that way, glazing my acrylic paints in many layers. This is the hardest encaustic technique to master.
